North Somerset Case Study: The Blue Room Success

North Somerset Case Study: The Blue Room Success

In 2011, The Blue Room in Nailsea became a Community Interest Company and secured larger premises next door to the original shop and gallery. At the beginning of 2012 the company acquired another area which it now uses for both exhibitions and workshops. The expansion has been rapid, but at the same time organic, as it has grown with the supply of local artists and the demand for their individual and diverse work.

Mother and daughters, Sheila Clifton, Amy Trevaskus and Nicola Clifton opened The Blue Room in 2010. Sheila had spent years working on craft markets and exhibitions: it was her dream to find a permanent showcase for local artists to promote and sell their work. When The Blue Room first opened it had 10 artists; it now has over 40 and displays original artwork, prints, ceramics, glass, fabric, soft furnishings, painted furniture, jewellery and much more.
