Leading value brand 99p Stores is to open a branch in the Crown Glass Shopping Centre in Nailsea.
The store, which stocks 5000 different items ranging from furniture polish to chocolate, is refurbishing the former Peacock clothes store in Somerset Square and will open its doors on April 16 with a chance for a local person to beat the trolley dash world record. The chosen shopper will have just 99 seconds to fill their trolley before the grand opening at 9.30am. And if they beat the world trolley dash record of 267 items in 99 seconds the shop will double their ‘trawl and haul’ prize.
99p Stores is a family-run company, launched in London in 2001 by Nadir Lalani and sons Hussein and Faisal. In 2012, the 200th store opened. Hussein Lalani said: “The public has become rightly fixated and hooked on value – and we are delighted to oblige. Now people like to share and even boast about the savings they make.“
James Lucas, Centre Manager at Crown Glass Shopping Centre in Nailsea, said: “99p Stores are extremely popular with shoppers and we are delighted to welcome them to Nailsea. They are the latest in a series of big names to see the benefit of coming to Nailsea – and it’s more good news for local shoppers.”
Specialist shopping centre investment and asset manager Ellandi, which acquired the Crown Glass Shopping Centre in 2009 in partnership with Development Securities plc, has implemented a series of improvements at the centre in recent months. These include the introduction of free WiFi, and the launch of a Nailsea focused loyalty card, as well as investing £250,000 in refurbishing the office block in Crown Glass Place.
Crown Glass has also staged a series of special events for shoppers. It already hosts regular events as well as supporting local and national charities. It also plays host to a Tuesday Market each week and to the monthly Nailsea Farmers’ Market and Craft Market.
