The Crown Glass Shopping Centre in Nailsea is pleased to announce that in 2015 they will be giving one lucky new retailer the opportunity to take a unit in the centre for free.
Due to the success of last year’s competition the #winashop campaign is back, with the Competition open to local entrepreneurs who have a passion for retail and would like to take their business idea onto the high street.
The Prize worth £25,000 will not only offer a retail unit in The Crown Glass Shopping Centre, rent, rates and service charge free for a year. But the winner will also have access to a range of local retail experts who are on hand to offer business advice from merchandising to business banking.
Each entry will be asked to submit a business plan which will be shortlisted by a panel of judges. Confirmed judges are; Mark Robinson, Ellandi; Simon Brumby, Waitrose; last year’s winner Emily Rickard, Ewe Knit 20; Vicky Angear, North Somerset Times; Ian Morell, Nailsea Town Council; and Janet Hendey, Wards Solicitors.
The shortlisted entries will then present their retail ideas in a Dragon Den style interview process before the winner is selected.
The competition last ran in 2013 when there were two lucky winners chosen, Party Smarty and Ewe Knit 20. After the year’s free trading the retailers have an option to enter into a commercial lease with the landlord. Emily Rickard of Ewe Knit 20 has had a successful year trading and will continue renting her unit into 2015. Amongst Emily’s success in 2014 she was shortlisted for national and local awards and has become a staple part of the local community.
Charlotte Jarrett, Shopping Centre Manager for The Crown Glass Shopping Centre said, “Ellandi’s continued support of initiatives like #winashop for Nailsea, maintains and further improves the retail offer for the town. Since their ownership in 2009 we have seen WH Smiths, 99p Stores and a number of independents join our retail mix. #winashop has proven success in placing and supporting local independents into the retail environment. There is still great opportunity for start-up businesses at the moment, and it is great that Nailsea is leading the way with our support.”
2013’S Winner, Emily Rickard said, “it’s great to be the other side of the table! I was delighted when I was asked to be involved in the competition this year, it offers such an opportunity for start-up businesses in North Somerset and the support from The Crown Glass Shopping Centre and the mentors has been invaluable.
I wouldn’t have been in the position to take my business onto the High Street without the support of Win a Shop and Ellandi offering rent and rates free. It has also opened other opportunities for me including taking my business online and running weekly workshops.”
Mark Robinson of Ellandi added: “As community shopping centre investors, we enjoying giving back to the community. When we ran the #winashop competition in 2013, we had so many great entries we couldn’t just pick one & ended up with two winners. The competition was so successful that off the back of it, we were able to bring in a number of new tenants.
This is a really great opportunity for someone who has dreamed of running their own shop and we look forward to hearing people’s ideas.”
The competition to win 15 Colliers Walk for a year is open to residents of North Somerset and Bristol aged 18 and over. The submissions open on https://www.facebook.com/CrownGlassShopping or via The Crown Glass Shopping Centre Management team who can be contacted on 01275 854543 from Monday January 19th and will close on Valentine’s Day, February 14th
