Community Bleed Kit Installation

We’re excited to announce the installation of Nailsea’s Community Bleed Kit within the Crown Glass Shopping Centre.

The kit is located on the wall next to the parcel delivery unit outside Iceland, and contains emergency medical equipment to slow or stop a catastrophic bleed. This could be because of an injury in the workplace, an injury at home, a traffic collision, a crime related matter, an animal attack etc.

The kit has been installed here, as it’s a key location, which we believe is visible and accessible to our community. The kit is not locked, as this defies the object of having an emergency provision.

The use of the kit does NOT require any specific or advanced training, and is designed so that anyone can use it (a simple to use colour coded instruction card is included with all kits).

Over the last 9 months the partnership with Avon and Somerset Police, have installed over 300 unrestricted public access bleed kits in accessible and highly visible locations across the Avon and Somerset area. We aim to have over 700 installed for our communities use by the end of 2024.

In order to make the best use of this kit, the team have made some simple requests:

  • Let your colleagues, friends and surrounding businesses know about the availability of this kit.
  • Use social media to spread awareness tagging ‘AVON AND SOMERSET BLEED KIT PARTNERSHIP’
  • The property that the kit has been affixed to will have some spare safety tags which are usually yellow and secure the front of the unit – please notify them if you notice the tag is missing.
  • Please also keep an eye on the unit for us. If you notice it has suffered damage, tampering, theft or if the pouch within is used – please just scan the QR code to report the specific issue and we will rectify it.
